Reading day

9/12/2010
Today was the first day that I had no plans. It was really nice. I slept in until about 10:00 am. When I got up and went downstairs in my pajamas (first time that I've gone to breakfast in pajamas) my host mom laughed at me. She showed me a note she had written to me, saying that she would be going to clean a shrine that morning, that I should make my own breakfast, and that she would probably be back before 10:00. lolz. Anyway, since she has come home already, she made breakfast for me. My host dad was still in Tokyo by the way.
After breakfast, my host mom asked me if I had any plans, which I didn't, so she told me that we were going to go over to her best friend's house. She said that she isn't her friend, she's family.
I went back up to my room and leisurely did some homework (it was just reading, so it was nice), and then I did some organizing, planning, etc. After a few hours, my host mom called me down for lunch. We ate some ramen for lunch, it was yummy, and then she gave me a popsicle for dessert, or as her and my host dad call it "ice candy."
After lunch we went over to her best friend's house. We just sat around and talked for a long time, her best friend's name is Akiko, and she is very much like my host mom, so I like her. Akiko's husband likes Japanese history a lot, and I do too, so my host mom got him to show me some history book, I couldn't read it at all, but it had some cool pictures in it. Akiko kept feeding us cake and sweets and stuff, and she gave me some coffee. :) Akiko lives very close to Javier's host family. On Wednesday she is going to pick me up from the train station. I don't remember why, but that's why I needed to meet her.
When we came home, I went up to my room to finish my homework, and then found myself in more of a reading mood. I didn't want to read ahead in my book for english, because I hate being ahead, it gets confusing in class discussions... So I started a new book. I almost started "I am a cat" by Natsume Souseki, but we are reading "kokoro" by natsume souseki in english right now, and I thought it would be too confusing for me, so I started "Memoirs of a Dutiful Daurghter" by Simone De Beauvoir. Martin gave it to me for my birthday, and I really like it so far.
My host mom called me down to dinner at around 6:30, and when I came downstairs, my host dad was there. He brought me some sweets from Tokyo :)
My host dad went to Tokyo to meet with some teachers that, 17 years ago, he traveled with to Europe and America. So he brought back 2 newspaper articles form 17 years ago that were from America, talking about the teachers' journey, he let me read them. There were also pictures of all of the travelers together, and my host dad had me pick out which one was him, it wasn't too hard, he had the same look on his face as he often does now. In one of the articles, the reporter got a lot of quotes from my host dad, who was apparently afraid of coming to america because of all of the violence he saw in movies. lolz.
We had curry again for dinner tonight! It was the best curry I've had so far! It just gets better and better! We also had edamame, and some salad thing. For dessert we had the sweets my host dad brought home, and pear. When I came back downstairs with my book, my host dad gave me another popsicle. hahaha.
I think I'll read some more before I have to go to bed, I hope I didn't forget any homework!
